Channel Surfing The Other Day I Came Across Some Old, Old Black & White Western Movies
They reminded me of a neighbor of mine in Calabasas Park from 1975 – 1984. His name, Clayton Moore. We both loved Jacuzzi’s at 110 degrees so we talked a lot.
Yes, he played the Lone Ranger for many years and at that time was still doing guest appearances. Even in a hot tub he came off as Kimosabe.
On The Subject Of Home Protection
His preference was a double barreled shotgun with sawed off barrels and pump action. He loaded it with one blank and one scattershot.
If an intruder came into his house he would yell and then pump as most intruders would recognize that sound. If they came farther, the loud blank is fired. Still coming, he estimated from his bed the payload would make an 8’ by 8’ pattern. Hard to miss.
Rest of story:
Jay Thomas told a hilarious story about the Lone Ranger on the David Letterman show. Particularly funny, if you knew Clayton Moore. Worth a listen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFabfnfhIaY
Clayton Moore was a class act and an icon to untold millions of kids back in the day. The Jay Thomas clip is a hoot! Thanks for sharing! Gotta know, though … did the mask come off in the Jacuzzi???
Yes, the mask came off. His voice and manners stayed the same. Due to legal problems with a studio, he could not wear his old costume. He had to make some changes. For example, dark sunglasses instead of a mask.
