Outstanding Source of Material – The State Department of Real Estate

For Real Estate Professionals an outstanding source of material would be the State Department of Real Estate (dre.ca.gov). So many facets from Licensee Lookup to Forms to Publications to Bulletins to Statistics to Alerts to Information on a vast amount of topics.

On the home page there is a banner and a top item is Licensee Lookup. Click here and you will be able to investigate any licensee in California including current brokers, salespersons, corporations and licensees from the past. Simple as one, two, three.

What to Check

You can check by licensee number or name. The preliminary information you will find would be mailing address, license number, status, expiration date, license ID, when issued, any Mortgage Loan Origination Endorsement, former names, offices, DBA, branches, affiliated entities, etc. Now some of the more important information includes any salespersons or broker affiliates working under this licensee, or who the licensee is working for, or whether the licensee is not affiliated with any broker at this time. For the brokerages you can estimate how many people they control. Nice to know sometimes.

Then, this is the item that I check many times when someone is requesting to work for me in some capacity or affiliate with me in some capacity. It is the comments section which lists any sanctions or disciplinary actions that have been filed against this licensee. Also, included are the formal action documents explaining the actions filed. Most interesting reading.

New State Regulation

There is a new State Regulation that allows a licensee with an action aged more than ten years to petition to have the action removed. But we will save that discussion for a later time. Some differences of opinion on this situation, obviously some for and some against. So before dealing with anyone licensed.
